  • After I saw your Body Double review a while ago I got curious in the work of Brian De Palma and I have watched since then 17 of his movies. My favorite is Obsession. Not just because I love Florence and I have been there but the story and the ending are beyond words. De Palmas visual style is tremendous.

  • @dagobah1528 Obsession is one of the few that I haven't seen all the way through. I saw bits and pieces of it on TV, but I need to watch the whole thing. I was actually thinking about seeing this recently because of the passing of Cliff Robertson.

I just picked up Scarface on Blu ray, and it looks and sounds amazing. I love those crane shots in the film, especially during the Sun Ray Motel/chainsaw sequence.

  • @thebrb30000 ...magnificent review, see Obsession, and I'm watching Blow Out right after this...give "Casualties of War" a look-see , too. That was DePalma's take on the Vietnam war, with Sean Penn's Way over the top performance...

  • @invincibleironman3 haven't seen Obsession, Blow Out is a masterpiece, and Casualties of War is good, but not great IMO. Sean Penn is excellent in it, though, as he was Carlito's Way. DePalma brought out some really great performances from Penn.

  • @thebrb30000 You definitely should watch the whole film. Btw I will be in Florence next week and I will visit some of the places from the movie. :-) Too bad Cliff Robertson passed away. He was totally underrated.

Scarface on bluray must really be something. There is another De Palma film with Al Pacino, "Carlito's Way". It has some similarities to Scarface. But I still need to see the second half of the movie.

Two other very interesting De Palma movies are "The Fury" and "Dressed to Kill".

  • @thebrb30000 Alright, cool--my search begins for it!

  • @juliantracks Cool! I'm glad to hear that. Hopefully, my review didn't spoil too much for ya :)

  • @thebrb30000 I've seen Blow Out (with an awesome younger Trinity Killer) and Dressed To Kill but I watched this one thanks to your review :-)

  • @MissZena Thanks! It is kind of a tough film to film to find. I have just a bare bones DVD edition. You could probably get it through Amazon, or maybe check it out through Netflix

I do love this film. It's not quite a 100% slasher film, but it certainly has a lot of those elements. And to me, it's a very under-appreciated film from a great director, and definitely worth checking out IMO :)

  • @juliantracks I agree. The Hitchcock influence is very apparent, but De Palma's films certainly have an influence of Italian cinema as well. Blow Out comes to mind in regards to this.
