Praising the GSI Dualist Cook System, Backpacker April '08 says, ''The nine-piece cookset simply disappears into itself.''

* The fully integrated, self-contained GSI Dualist Cook System provides two backpackers with lightweight essentials for backcountry dining.

* Kit includes two insulated mugs with lids, two bowls and a hard-anodized pot with Lexan® lid.

* Mugs nest securely inside the bowls, which in turn nest within the pot; color-coded mugs and bowls prevent mix-ups.

* Insulated mugs have a low center of gravity and include lids with Sip-It openings that virtually eliminate spills.

* Ultralight backpacking stove and small isobutane fuel canister (both sold separately) can also nest within for a complete and compact cooking system.

* Hard-anodized Halulite™ pot distributes heat evenly for fast and efficient cooking and is extremely lightweight and abrasion resistant.

* Lexan polycarbonate lid is lightweight and nearly indestructible; lid features an integrated strainer ideal for use with pasta and steamed vegetables.

* Flip-up tab on top of lid makes for easy lid removal.

* Silicone-coated handle provides a comfortable, secure grip; handle locks into place for cooking and secures the entire set for transport.

* Includes a rugged stuff sack that doubles as a sink or wash basin.

  • Markesbery is recognized as a pre-eminent researcher of Alzheimers disease. His pioneering research discounted the once-popular theory that an accumulation of toxic metals such as aluminum play a role in the development of Alzheimers disease. Markesbery found that beta amyloid peptides promote neurodegeneration by inducing a free-oxygen radical process called lipid peroxidation in nerve cell membranes.

    Google News -- Alzheimer's + Aluminum

Do your own research for yourself.

  • Supposedly, this cookset is made from Halulite and is described as an alloy of some sort. There could be aluminum in it, but I don't know.

  • Great review. Looked even better in person. The website showed that it was supposed to come with collapsible cutlery, but it looks like you got gyped. I'll give you an extra LMF Spork in super pimp yellow if you want!

  • almost perfect kit, except that it came with a plastic material lid and plastic foon.

  • GSI makes some great stuff ;) c

  • The Halulite material is an alloy and imho is better than Ti as it does a better job of transferring heat, so you get shorter boil times and need less fuel per/meal.

  • @freckles527 This theory has since been disproven, or is at least no longer believed to be a significant factor in alzheimers disease.

  • @woodsboy281

Do you have the new teflon lined one or the old halulite one. Does it make a difference. Being able to heat over open fire is deal breaker for me. I can make a lid.

  • i have the same thing and i have been using it over an open fire for about a year now with no problems

  • I plan to.

  • The boil time isn't great but I added a home made wind screen and that seems to help a bit. I like the fact that the Raptor is stainless steel and feels very sturdy. Overall, I'm very happy with it as a stove. I have a video up with my windscreen on it if you'd like to take a look.

  • How is the Raptor, I've heard the boil time is kind of lacking.

  • love it! i got one and it only took two days to get to my house...got it yesterday...im goin backpacking on the 18th... cant wait! btw its overnight!
