This scene has always touched my heart. God is full of mercy and grace, HIs love sees us where we are, and lifts us up to where he intends us to be. Sure it is a life long process. But it is in the process that our character is formed. I truly pity the man that has lived a perfect life never knowing what it meant to make mistakes. It is in our mistakes that we can embrace our humanness, our daily need for God. : )

This is the kind of person that I want to be I would have been just like the wife and I would have had a piece of his ass but I believe that man knew the goodness he had inside and didnt want it wasted. So touching!

I know Jean Valjena is a fictitious character but that doesn't stop me crying for him, I'm reading the book and his story just breaks my heart, such a sad life, why can't people be forgiving, his initial crime was stealing a loaf of bread out of hunger and not to feed himself but his sister's children. he's an extremely good man
