Help with my shot put glide. I did not throw a reverse in this one I will upload one with a reverse later. I want to atleast try to figure out what i'm doing wrong with my glide so after seeing this I think that I need to start lower, not drag my right foot after throw, maybe get a little more tourqe. This was my first year throwing, as a junior in high school (i know kinda late to start), and the goal as of right now is to get to the mid-40's by the begining of the winter season and high 40's low 50's by the end. Any help would be great, thanks.
Edit- After watching it closely I saw that I need a stronger block

  • You seem well able to work out what you need to improve on! Good luck. I coach shot in the UK for kids 9-16. One thing I notice was your left leg needs more kick and speed. You could try and place a medicine ball behind your left foot. The idea is to kick the ball away as you start to glide (imitating without a shot for practice) then use a lighter shot in your hand while practising this excercise.

Thanks for the comment, I actually fixed most of my problems with the glide and my coach said it was 90%down. Pretty much I would have to gain distance by getting faster, stronger, and more flexable. Recently I switched to the roational shot put and I am now throwing 41-42 ft!!:)

  • @gbburness18 SORRY not 8m but almost 18m ! What a distance. Did you watch any of the shot from the World Champs at Daegu?

  • @harunshotput Fantastic that's great to hear. Upon converting feet to metres, I worked out that's almost throwing 8m.

You must have developed your speed and strength nicely to be able to start rotational shot. I have a 15 yr old throwing 10.5m from the glide but he's not yet stable in his core or even fast or flexible (trhows on true grit brut force!) but I am working on him. :) Keep it up!
