is this the only radio you have? im wanting a qrp rig like what you have there, but everybody recomends a radio with power.i want to ride the quads up top of mt's and set up, running off the quad batt. i was looking at the buddi stick, then seen your vid with the bluestar ant. kinda the same type ant.if you were to recomend a band for mfj radio, what band would you say?thx, mike

Awesome video -- I'm getting the itch to get back into ham radio - I was first licensed in 1978 and have been off the air for last 15 or so years -- Your video has me interested in trying QRP. Thanks for posting!!

@Doggybreath QRP for SSB operation is 10 watts. QRP for CW is 5 watts.

@VImessenjah Sorry for not repling sooner. I am using a bluestar portable #1 antenna which breaks down to 14 inch lenghths and fits in a bag with the radio.I screw it right into the back of the radio on a 90 degree connector and run a counter poise wire.Check out their website just google bluestar antennas , Thanks for checking out the video, hope that helps and Happy Easter, Pat
Hello Mike and Dmmac, Yes I still have a lot of fun with the 9420 I have worked alot of stations I never thought possible . the 817 is great also , lots of acc. avalible..The bluestar would work well with 817 for multi band op. without a need for a tuner. As you can tell from the video the 9420 has a very low noise floor and as very hot receive. I adjusted the AGC for my liking. It has amazing transmit audio as well. The 817 would be nice on 12&17 right now w/ all the openings to europe.Thanx

True QRP is at 5 Watts or less. This radio can do 10 to 12 watts.
