City 17 Orchestra (Half Life 2)

You are cordially invited to the debut performance of the City 17 Orchestra, aka "The Stars," to commemorate Wallace Breen's established administration here in the Citadel so thoughtfully provided by our benefactors.

Someone recently asked me exactly how I went about making this, so I thought I'd include the breakdown of my work for those interested: Breen's speech was made by editing sound clips in audacity, and then I animated Breen in faceposer. The audience and concert hall were constructed in hammer. The orchestra was by far the hardest to make. The entire song was composed using only sounds found within the half life game itself. This took a long time to compose! Some sounds are easy to tell where they came from (guns), while others are much more subtle (metal door slamming, glass breaking, rubber impact). I then animated the performers in faceposer to correspond with the song.

Though not entirely true to the half life story line (what are some of the characters doing in an orchestra endorsed by Breen!), I did want to create an orchestra that would be representative of the game (the use of weapons as instruments). But most of all I was just to trying to have fun with all the characters and with the game sounds by using them in a creative way.
