@fmoa th best army evr was Rome followed by Macedonians,Greeks and Carthagians but one of their leaders my favorite in all history is Caio Julius Ceasar most know as Julius Ceasar he was the one that married Cleopatra and he is considered the best of the best general''s that have ever lived and there are evidences that the romans were able to get in China and if Ceasar wasn't murdered we all would probably be speaking latain

@fmoa And every time the Sassanids went West they got their sand sucking mouths kicked in by the Romans. Cheers mate.
romans were good at conquering northern barbarians n the weaken greeks n macedonians, also conquer carthage which doesnt av a standing army but a army of mercenaries, but when rome face a quality opponent in parthia n sassanids, the roman war machine met its match in the east, rome av this dream of surpassing alexander in the east, but the dream ended up a nightmare for rome in east, they never pass western iran n didnt even conquer iran,it later copy iranian heavy cavalry tactics, cheers mates.

@fmoa At least Rome made it to persia but persians didn't even set foot in Europe. the Carthaginians & the Greeks/Macedonians were the best armies of their times, they wern't weakened untill they fought Rome. Hannibal & his army would chew sassanids for breakfast & the macedonians at cynoscephalae although their empire was being reduced they still had a massive disciplined army with sofisticated weaponry & armor & their deadly phalanx but the Romans defeated them cos they were more manouverable

@fmoa also the parthians defeated the Romans with mostly hit & run tactics still they had to murder crassus under flag of truce to make the Romans break. also Pompey kicked the parthians in their butts. Mark Antony's parthian campaign crumbled when his allies deserted him & could do nothing alone but still while retreating the cataphracts were harassing his men untill he sprung his trap of forming testudo to lure them closer & as they did the legions charged them & slaughtered many in melee :)
