Here we are at Day 30 of Vibrant Vegan's 30 Days, 30 Fruits for You Project!

Derrick and I hope you've learned, or now realize how healthy fruits really are! (You don't need much more in your daily diet besides fresh raw fruit.) We hope you've tried some fruits maybe you've never nibbled before, and made some of the low fat, raw vegan recipes we shared. All in all, we hope you've gotten healthier, or are inspired to be healthier. Our purpose is to help make the world a healthier, more vibrant place, and we hope we've done a little of that for you.

About those low fat, raw vegan recipes...I loved creating them for you, but please know and feel certain that you can eat fruit all by itself! You don't have to prepare any recipe to make fruit more of a "meal." Here are some of my favorite things about fruit:

it contains lots of water
it's full of nutrients
you can peel and eat
sometimes you just rinse it and eat
it's easy to pack (lunches, hikes, etc.)
very little preparation necessary

...and now to Day 30's featured fruit! It's the Charentais Melon!

-Charentais Melons are a greenish-grey color on the outside with a gorgeous orange flesh. Their flavor has been said to be slightly spicy with some floral-ness here and there.

-One cup contains about 60 calories.

-They are also known as French or French Breakfast Melons

-The Charentais melon is often considered the tastiest of melons

-Charentais Melons are a great source of:

Vitamins A and C
Fiber
Potassium
Beta-carotene

-These yummy melons have been shown to help promote healthy digestion.

-Melons in general have been shown to help prevent high blood pressure and certain cancers.

-All melons have been shown to help promote kidney and bladder health.

Here's your tasty, delicious, magnificent, and oh so very healthy LOW FAT RAW VEGAN RECIPE featuring the Charentais Melon.

CHARENTAIS MELON-GRAPE-CUCUMBER-DILL SALAD

Another one of those meals that is satisfying, yummy, refreshing, and easy to prepare! This salad contains just about 300 calories.

Ingredients

1 Charentais Melon, seeded and cut into bite-sized chunks (or melon of your choosing)
1 cup grapes
1 cucumber, chopped
1 teaspoon dill (fresh or dried)
juice of 1/2 lemon

Toss everything into your favoritest bowl, stir gently, then munch munch away!

Eat more melons!
Eat all the fresh fruit you want!

  • Most vegans I know look sickly. You look pretty good though. Are you a fruitarian?

  • um, no theyre not

  • very nice!

I definitely eat way more fruit now. I bring quite large amounts to work every day and that's all I eat during my working hours. I have way more energy that way and I also like being asked questions about my eating habits :)
