This 5 part tutorial series goes through a bare bones technique to create a crowd.
In this section, we prepare the animated characters for instancing and in part 3 we place them on our particles. In part 4 we begin using expressions to determine character behavior.
@tyronewatson Hey thank you for the comment and asking a question. i'll take a look at the videos and see if i can do a better job explaining. my home machine sucks so i get a little impatient when it comes to editing.

You did a great job with the first part of the tutorial...but you didnt quite explain what you did with the particleShape1.customSpeed attr....the video suddenly stopped and part two jumps right to the geometry......thanx for the tut...but it is harder to follow is you dont understand these mel scripts...
