Ashleys P.O.V.

In the blink of an eye Monday came. And right on cue at 6:30am my alarm went off, beeping until I had to surrender and get up to turn it off. I took another look at my walls, desperately wishing I could paint them black and add some pink splatters here and there. But now I had school.

Over the weekend Danielle had insisted on buying me a whole new wardrobe filled with designer jeans, tops, shoes and stupid accessories. I glazed my eyes over the thousands of clothes that filled my walk in closet and sighed. How I wished I had my old pair of plain jeans and my black Converse. But I knew Danielle wouldnt be satisfied unless I was in the new neon orange stilettos and black short shorts. After throwing them on with a tight orange shirt I quickly curled my hair, collected my Vera Bradley shoulder bag and made my way downstairs.

"Morning Ashley! Oh you look great! Didnt I tell you the heels matched you perfectly?"

I sat down, ignoring Joe and Nicks drooling faces.

"Yeah you did." I said weakly.

In seconds a maid I had never seen before placed a stack of pancakes in front of me and laid a napkin on my lap. I groaned. I didnt like this posh California lifestyle.

"So, excited for your first day?" Kevin asked.

I forced a small smile, making Kevin laugh. Funny, this was the first time I had seen him laugh in the last four days. He had a nice laugh.

"Dont worry, Nick and Joe will take care of you."

"Yeah, Ill take REAL good care of you." Joe said, winking.

A saw a pancake fly across the table, and in seconds a full out food fight was going on between Nick and Joe. But before Danielle could stop it, a bony hand grabbed Joes wrist.

"The owner of the next pancake thrown gets one good swift kick to their keister!"

The bony hand belonged to the maid that had served me earlier. I actually took the time to take her appearance in. She didnt have a uniform, but an old lady beaded sweater and black skirt. This of course was worn because she looked like she was 60. Her hair was powder white and she was petite and thin, her veins popping out of her hands. Her pale complexion made her look ghostly, but yet she had this motherly look to her.

Joe and Nick cautiously sat down and the maid took their plates away from them.

"Miss Edna, they have to eat." Danielle pleaded. "No, no! I just mopped the floors and if there is but one piece of pancake on there they can scrub it off their damn selves!"

And with that "Miss Edna" disappeared into the kitchen. All was silent until Danielle cleared her throat.
