"Kayak" and "Lake Michigan" don't belong in the same sentence! Better were a life jacket so the Coast Gaurd can find your body and not spend days and weeks of searching. Ever try golfing?...Lot of fun and safer too. Be safe and don't become a statistic.

You should be alright if you stay in the harbors or within the breakwalls. I'd be afraid to take it on the open lake. If the water is cold, you should be in a wetsuit, just in case. You can die quickly in the icy water.

Mostly 2.5" Fin-S minnow imitators on a 1/32 ox jig. Look up my "A Kayak Covered with Jumbo Perch Poop" video. You can see them better in that video.

Yes, Navy Pier all winter long is good for perch fishing right from the pier. I got out twice from 95th St this November and did well - but the perch were 2 miles from shore. There's 3 months I haven't been on Lake Michigan - Dec, Jan and Feb. I hope to do it this winter, but all times either in a harbor or within the breakwalls around Navy Pier. You won't catch me out on the open lake until spring.
