@lisalilsmartass - probably waay to late, but there are in fact music scholarships available from the department, which pay for music lessons at the conservatoire. You can apply once a year, and they are awarded based on your highest grade/highest mark for that grade. Worth a try!

@Joolz211 They definitely pay for 20 hours of lessons in your first year, and they continue through 2nd and final years if you choose performance modules. They are not weekly, but at that standard one lesson every 2-3 weeks is more appropriate.

Study music at Birmingham if you want to attend a particularly small number of lectures/seminars in exchange for your £9000 a year. When you're paying that amount in fees, they should also pay for you to have a weekly lesson on your main instrument for the whole of the academic year, but I very much doubt they'll do that.

@lisalilsmartass In that case I would definitely try and get hold of the current people that teach violin and try and get lessons from them, they may be able to add you in after the music students, or arrange lessons at the conservatoire of their house. They will be anything from £30 an hour upwards but the standard of teaching is very high. All the teachers at the moment are acting professionals that are in orchestras such as the CBSO or in musical theatre pit orchestras etc...

@lisalilsmartass There is no way of doing it through the university. There are opportunities available for you though. The standard of musicians at Birmingham University is very high, so you could put up a sign on the music noticeboard (north corridor of the arts building) and ask if any students would be willing to teach you. Alternatively you could email the music office asking for contact details for the current teachers of the instrument you want, they will be expensive but well worth it.
