@vau0807 if its an overused template then it is because it adds a plausible explanation for someone to do something irrational. it is a template that works and has more depth to it than you see in most every hollywood "horror" movie. as it is, dog noises may have worked as a lure, however she most likely would have first told someone that their was an injured animal nearby and to get help (unless she was a vet). the monsters ambush wouldnt have worked if she went to get help first.

@WightNightLegacy It's obvious that she didn't need to "grab a light" since we (the viewers) plainly can see the fish-that-baits-humans monster. I'll admit to smiling at the irony of a fish catching a human. Regardless, it could have been *any* sort of noise, and the same chain of events would have transpired. The wanting to be pregnant added nothing. Also, this is an overused template. E.g. "Woman cries over losing beloved pet dog, hears dog noises, lured by monster, the end."

@vau0807 then what sort of setup would you use there, pray tell? you talk as if you know horror but the setup paid off quite well if you look deeper than face value. the angler fish monster attracts prey by luring them in with their own desperations. the woman wished to be a mother so bad that she would react to an out of place baby noise rather than first grab a light and help like most any rational person.

The best part was the ending theme borrowed from "Carnival of Horrors". A woman is ambushed by a goofy-looking monster making baby noises? So what? The whole pregnancy setup isn't even paid off - it comes down to the woman reacting to some out-of-place noise and getting lured into an ambush. You could have skipped straight to the outdoor scene and had the monster mimicking injured dog whimpers instead of baby noises.

Fewdio had made lots of powerful, scary short films. This isn't one of them.

I thought it was going to be some fox monster, but this was way better. And was it modeled after an angler fish? Very cool stuff!
