Charlie Rose interviews Pastor Gregory Boyd on his book, "The Myth of a Christian Nation: How the Quest for Political Power Is Destroying the Church."

Although Boyd is no liberal, he lost one-fifth of his congregation when he preached that the church should steer clear of mixing the gospel with a specific political stance.

Total running time for the 3 parts is 21 minutes.

You don't vote and call yourself a Christian. This guy is right. He studied the Jehovas witness publications and actually reads the bible. Jesus didn't waste time voting for imperfect people who can't better the world.

I think that many Christians don't realize they have been kidnapped mentally by the political right. We need to be oh so careful that we do what God wants and not what a party wants.

Yeah, Jesus was under the rule of Rome and was trying to advise the people on how to live to Jewish law under the occupation. Susequenlty the modern advocates of Jesus's ways re only happy when thay have something to fight against. Thus the pretend war on christmas, the backing of Israel, homosexulaity and a whole other raft of things.

    ccheers

jesus rebuked not only the pharisees but also his deciples many times because they lacked true knowledge from God and the holy spirit and sometimes they would speak out of their heart which the bible says not to. peter didnt want jesus to die, out of his heart he had the right motive, but in doing so he was telling jesus not to save the world. he didnt understand nor did he have knowledge from above. but i admit i am also guilty of this and i am learning to follow only Gods will, nothing else.

if that is the case then why did jesus say to store up treasures in heaven. this would mean someone who repented on their death bed would have the same reward as the deciples and prophets and even jesus christ who is also by all means, is a man. the bible clearly states that jesus is seated at the fathers right hand and that we will judge the world and the angels. therefore only those who passed certain tests would be able to do such judgements with great responsiblility. we dont know.

I would contest your assertion that the church already takes care of the poor. For if it did, the gov't wouldn't have all the social welfare programs that some within gov't feel necessary to provide.
