My cat, Huxley, almost NEVER makes any noise, but she ALWAYS does silent meows. I never knew why. I adopted her when she was 9 years old from a no-kill cat shelter. She had been abused for most of her life and was missing lots of hair and someone had cut her whiskers off. She is no 19. When I adopted her they tried to dissuade me because they said she would not be a good pet. She is the best cat I could ever hope to have, and a bundle of nothing but love. Thanks for posting! :)

@barrytraver Is this the case for all cats? Our cat does a silent meow and we have been wondering what it meant.

She's a very lovely and sweet kitty. I have one suggestion. Delete luigi's remark.

this is creepy that guy is a cat molester
Yes, a silent meow is "special" and is a way of saying "thank you." It can also be a way of saying "pretty please" when Georgia is asking permission to do something that she is not ordinarily allowed to do (such as exploring the basement or going outside). (Getting to the basement is half-way to getting outside, which she very much wants to do, but she is not permitted to go outside without her walking jacket and leash attached.) P,S, Georgia's please silent meow is VERY difficult to refuse.

Georgia is an F5 Savannah cat. Thus she is a mixture of Aftican serval and domestic cat (in her case, mostly Egyptian Mau). She also is part Bengal (which means she is also part Asian leopard). She usually gives us the "silent meow" when we are looking at her
(and especially when she is asking permission to do something she knows she should do, not true in the clip shown. (When we're not looking at her, her meow is anything but silent.)
