Many of the remaining Tuskegee Airmen returned to Tuskegee, Alabama for the grand opening of the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site Museum on October 10-12, 2008. Bus loads of Airmen, their families and tourists returned to the old TAAF training field where much of their flying training was conducted.
It was my great honor to meet some of the surviving Tuskegee Airmen at their reunion in NYC back in 1990. My unit was tasked to provide a color guard for the event and they treated us like gold. It was amazing to meet these men, listen to their stories and be allowed to be a part of their reunion. They were, and will always remain, amazing men, and true American heroes.

My grandfather was a mchnic for the Tuskegee Airmen, he passed away in 72. In a ironic twist of fate I graduated from Tuskegee in 96. I'm a Major in the Marine Corps. I wish he would have lived to see this.
