"Don't read it on the train, you'll attract the wrong element." .... sadly this is true even today.

The reason given at the time was that it was immoral but it is actually a very moral book. It argues that sex is something that should happen with real emotion. This is someting that may or may not happen within marriage. The main charcters are both married but they find their true spirtual union with each other. Their partners are symbolic of extremes of the wrong way to do things her husband of neglecting the physical & his wife neglecting the sprirtual.

The quality of acting is not consistent, nor should it be, and it is a testament to Matt Weiner's genius that an episode can survive through quite a bit of hum-drum face-making and "line-chanting", until you put four pros like this together to come up with a classic Mad Man scene. This is a gifted ensemble group of actors using cinematic technique on the not-so-small home screen. Awesome.
