I love this guy... He get involved so much in all his own movies, most director usually pushes small things to someone else. Believe me try to do more research on this man.

I found this part of the interview totally heartbreaking actually. I've never seen Paul Verhoeven talk before seeing these interviews, and suddenly it makes so much sense of the themes and sense of humour especially prevalent in his films. Thank you very very much for posting.

This was my favorite part of the interview. Verhoeven really opens up about his childhood in Nazi-occupied Holland, and shares his single worst and best memory as a young boy there. -zen

paul verhoven is a great great director he had made 4 holiwood masterpices- robocop, total recall, starship troopers. basic instict.1

Quite so. I mean, look at Starship Troopers. He took so many of his experiences with living in Nazi-occupied Holland into a "popcorn" film about giant bugs in a Hollywood action movie. A great smuggler. This part is so heartbreaking. It really give you and idea about the themes that he explores and the sense of humor that he has.

He's a great director and "Black Book" is a great movie. That family story is great.
