Launch of Blackpool's new Bombardier Flexity 2 tram at Starr Gate depot, 8th September 2011. The tram appeared through the dry ice to the sound of Adiemus by Karl Jenkins and then proceeded to do 2 round trips carrying the invited guests to the Pleasure Beach. Note: the soundtrack has been edited to minimise the obtrusive wind noise, the sounds of the tram are as it happened however. If you have ever been to Blackpool you will know how windy it can get!

  • Why is there a fake soundtrack? At 2:14, it's quite obvious.

  • The old trams gave Blackpool character and were a tourist attraction. People from places like Sheffield, Manchester, Nottingham etc can rtide on these things every day of the week, it doesn't make Blackpool any different. Blackpool will never be the same again.

  • Blackpool will never be the same without the good old trams. shame to replace all the wonderful old trams with weird looking pieces of plastic. it seems Blackpool has lost its character now they've gone, my only hope is that they preserve them, knowing them the old trams will be on the scrap heap tomorrow. wish i had the money and the land, Id end up preserving them all, only problem is not many preserved railways have overhead wires, unless they go to the Birkenhead tram museum there is no hope

  • I love trams- they come in every shape size, and the new ones always look so futurisitic!

  • CANT WAIT TO TRY THE NEW TRAM ALTHOUGH WE LOVE THE OLD ONES TOO WE GET TO SEE THESE EVERYDAY AT THE STAYMOR BLACKPOOL THEY ARE AT THIS MOMENT BUILDING A TRAM STOP RIGHT OUTSIDE OUR HOTEL !

  • As the old trams were, are and will always be part of blackpools heritage, they will not be going for a few years to come. These new trams are nothing like Sheffield, Manchester or Nottingham. Blackpool has been granted 100 million on improving the tramlines and the tram stops. I think these new trams are great. They LOOK better than the one that caught fire on 24 01 07 and the last batch of trams they have from the 80's which still run (the ones with the doors at the front).

  • i wonder how long will it be before these new Flexity trams have adverts splashed all over them

  • its too slow, i want it to go faster than the old ones

  • why is it on american side, anyway i like old trams, i grew up with them

  • NAOOOOOO

    I LIEK OLD TRAMS

    NAOOOOOO
