Urban Forestry candidate Jose Escobar takes the initial performance test, which includes a rope climb and a tree climb.
This means the candidates must climb out on a tree limb and free climb to a point on a tree in a limited amount of time as well as use equipment to pull themselves into a tree.
The practical is designed to test for three things: agility, courage (heights), and strength.
The candidates are hoping to be selected for a six-month urban forestry training course. Partners in the training include the City of Milwaukee, WRTP/BIG STEP, Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board, AFSCME, and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
