N16NA, have you ever seen a plane cut across grass before to access the runway? It was recorded at the Hawthorne Air Faire in 1993.

Shot by my friend Craig Pilkington (Aviation Media ©).

  • Wow, I remember seeing this plane land and takeoff at Hawthorne a many of times. What was most impressive was seeing that Northrop Convair 580 land and takeoff there. Its wingspan would cause all other landings and takeoffs to stop until it was parked or took off.

  • @loaferguy73, I sure would have loved to have seen that!

  • since the takeoff is so short, y he didn't just takeoff on the taxiway or that strip of grass there

  • he could take off from an aircraft carrier!

  • Maybe the distance is not the big deal here, did u guys saw the climb rate? OMG with almost no speed, what a excellent airframe.

  • @RyanBomar Yes it was most impressive Ryan, it would have cars stopping on 120th St to watch it!
