This is my 1966 Chevrolet C-10 shortbed stepside. It has the original 250 inline 6 with a 3 on the tree transmission. I got it as my 16th birthday present from my parents. It was my daily driver for the past 4 years until gas hit $3.00 a gallon and I bought a Honda. It only gets driven on the weekends that I'm home from school now that I'm in college.

In the near future, the engine is going to be completely rebuilt with a multitude of new stuff, including 307 pistons, a Clifford 4 barrel hot water head, and a 390 cfm Holley 4 barrel to replace the Rochester B that is on there now. The ignition will be updated with a Pertronix electronic distributor and a 40,000V coil. The original trans will be replaced with a 3 speed w/ overdrive from a '62 Impala.

  • the one i was thinking of buying got a 4 speed manual... that it 30% more fuel efficiency

  • I get about 10-13 mpg in mine, that is roughly 5 km/L. The 4 speed has a direct drive 4th gear, so it is the same as my 3 speed, you're only picking up a granny first. Plus the 1 tons came with a 4.11 or 4.56 rear gear and I have a 3.73, so your mileage will be a little less than mine.

  • wow it sure is old and worn out. check out all the oil coming out the exaust...

  • That's built up soot and water coming out. It used to run rich and the pipe would blow crap out when it was revved up. It only uses 1/2 to 3/4 of a quart of oil per 3000 mile oil change.

  • i noticed you said something about millage what kind of millage dose it get

  • Before I rebuilt the head, I averaged about 10 mpg in the city and 13 on the highway. I haven't filled it up to check after rebuilding the head. I'm thinking that I get maybe 1 or 2 mpg more in the city and the highway. With the R10 trans, I'm hoping for 15 mpg city and 18 mpg highway.

  • In 40 years lets see how many RICERS they are still left to be reused and hot rodded. The odds are slim since they are not made to last that long like GOOD OL AMERICAN STEEL BITCHES!!!

  • I'm glad you kept the little inliner too. More room to add some power ;)

  • @whirlpool1978 I would have liked to see the tailpipe shooting all that crud out!

  • Just got a 700r4 from a camero for my 65 c10 shortbed. Going to build my original 250straight six to. Milled the head and did the valves. Just need to port and polish them. But for sure the clifford intake and a good 4barrel set up will do a lot. also some headers. But not cliffords headers and cam. Not cost effective. You can get the same from other companys at a fraction of the cost.

  • I had one with those speacs except it had a long wide fleetside bed on it ran better too and had to rebuild the shifting mechaniziam too.

  • thank you so much.

  • i am thinking of buying an 1972 Chevrolet C-30 Stepside long Bed. with the same engine so i wonder what is the milage. in liter if you know :P hard to live in norway :P

  • I love those Chevy straight sixes. Hope you're keeping yours. I'd suggest a '66-'68 Saginaw 3 speed overdrive for a transmission. 1) it doesn't have that "bus" sound when pulling out in 1st gear 2) it is a more heavy duty transmission 3) it has a SYNCHRONIZED 1ST GEAR!!! I just converted m y'58 Impala from a Powerglide to a Saginaw 3spd OD and I love it! My '56 wagon has a 235 six with an earlier overdrive, which is still a nice transmission; better than a standard 3 speed. Nice truck!

  • que onda loco te encuentro en todas partes.

  • I almost have the same! I got a 65 GMC shortbed with side step. Same color! Had a 230cid in it but died:( Putting a 292cid in on tues
