Adults & Kids Capoeira Demo

In Capoeira one learns an Afro-Brazilian art form that includes: music, dance, self-defense and more in an artistic, fun & playful way. Capoeira builds on perception skills by working in the moment, while preparing one for the next step. Children in this class will learn and strengthen their motor-coordination, strength, balance and flexibility which are crucial for the development. Capoeira is also beneficial to social skills as children learn to become humble controlling their movements and attitude. It can also help to develop the potential of each individual in their ability to learn in school and have a positive influence on their life in general.

This class is being facilitated by David Teixeira, well known as "Motoca", of the CentroSul Capoeira School of Huntington Beach. Motoca has a natural intuition with children that helps him connect to children in order to understand their different personalities. He has 10 years of Capoeira Experience under the Supervision of one Master, Contra Mestre Gui. He is very loyal and dedicated to his work and practices.

Children participating in this special Capoeira class will have the unique opportunity to learn the authentic Capoeira Regional created by Mestre Bimba, the "father of Capoeira". Children will begin the class by signing in to capture the date that they began learning, growing, and building relationships. Then the music, dance, self-defense and art begin in a fun & playful way. Components of the class will include:
· Stretching sessions to increase flexibility
· Group formats and partner work
· Foundational movements and escapes combined with Mestre Bimba's 8 Sequences
· Play in the Roda*
*The game or "jogo" takes place within a circle of participants referred to as "roda de capoeira" where two of them enter at time and "spar" at the singing/clapping sound. The game is circular and dynamic with high and low movements where players alternate sequences in a continuous flow of movements.
Philosophy plays a large part in Capoeira and during this class children will learn along with many other things Respeito (Respect), Responsabilidade (Responsibility), Segurança (Safety/Security), Malícia (Cleverness /Street-smarts), and Liberdade (Liberty/Freedom).
