This is from our two week trip to Scandinavia. This part is from our fourth stop on the tour in Finland. It starts as we arrive from Stockholm on the overnight ferry. I didn't take much video of Helsinki when we were on land, but I took some video of the TV ads which was interesting because Finnish is a VERY strange language, and unlike any other country we visited.

  • Kissan paska=Cat's poop.

    AHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHH!!!!

  • @NoneMad Is that what the ad on TV was?

  • @Zaunstar No that's what the female in the boat is talking about.

  • @NoneMad Oh, that's funny! Hah! I wonder why that topic would come up on a boat.

  • Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian are all North Germanic languages. Finnish isn't even an Indo-European language; it's Uralic. It's probably absorbed a few Swedish words into the language, since a sizable minority of people in Finland speak Swedish as their first language and it's even an official language there alongside Finnish (it was a part of Sweden before Russia). But even so, it's still very different. and yeah, it's pretty wacky.

Anyway, if you happen to see this, was it nice there?

  • @Gunderson002 Oh yeah, it was very nice there. I actually knew all of that about the language already, but thanks. *:-) My grandfather (morfar), was born and raised in Stockholm.

  • The land of saunas !

  • Yes I have! Well, it was part of a Scandinavia tour, and my grandmother's parents were from there as well. Their last name was "Petaja".

  • You have been in Finland? Cool.( I don't see many reasons to come here though :P )

  • Gosh, where do I even start? It sounds like nothing I can describe. Swedish, my wife things sounds like the tweeting of a bird. I sometimes describe Finnish as being like tikkapikkapullaatuupakuppa... and that's just one word!!! Hah!
