@Bigyomann lol, im 6 ft 7 also and im actually working on getting money together to go visit some friends in california, lol
-
@MrTubanator I agree with you though for the most part, Contras beat out East Coast Sousa's (No offense East Coast) but come to the West Coast ^_^ Now there's some debating on that part. You can find Sousa's on the west coast with competiton. And some who can beat my ass too being a heavy build at 6' 7" :D
But thanks for replying, I was the only one for awhile.
P.S. Come to California!

@Bigyomann i respect your opinion, but in my past few years in my HS marching band, going around to other high schools to watch them practice, and just playing with random groups around indiana, i still havent found a single sousa player who could outplay me with my contra, i also have never found a sousa player who was big enough to kick my ass, lol

Take a look at other bands like Ayala High School and Tarpon Springs. Both use sousaphones. Who sound amazing. Particularly Ayala HS within itself is a DrumCorp at the HS level. Staffed with Blue Devils blood and head John Meehan, Drill by Leon May. But these players are not weak lazy men/women. They do not suck. They are a mini BD. As for power, It's not the instrument, It's the Player. Just being a contra doesnt mean your powerful, because sousas can kick your...any day. Theres my 2 cents.

I like how there are so many comments about dislike about Sousaphones.
The main difference most Band Directors look about is tone quality, cost, and portability.
Tone: Sousaphones are warmer and multidirectional, Contras are Brighter and single direction.
Cost: Avg Contra $6100. Avg Sousa $7300.
Portability: Depends on the band. Generally Contras a more portable. But I've seen/been in bands that and transport a sousa better than a contra.

@meeman21 amen!!! Haha sousaphones are crap contras where it's at and tigergal you may be In a marching band but if you ever hope to be as good as any drum corps u use contras if you wanna sound like ass though so be it haha
-
@tigergal6575 quote from my high school band director
"i will never teach a band that uses sousaphones because i will not let my tuba section sound like ass"
-
Sousaphones are nice, they're easy to carry, easy to maintain, and make AMAZING visuals. But they suck for tone quality. I thought my school's Yamaha Sousas didn't sound very good compared to Tubas, then I tried other sousas and they sounded even worse. I'd take a Contra over a Sousaphone almost any time.
-
This is an exact quote from my high school band director "I will not buy contras because we are a marching band not a drum corps."
No need for explanation.
it makes me mad that our band director thinks sousa's are better than contra's when the very obviously arnt....

@KauaiBallerof2012 contras are a million times better, my school uses them, and they are the best. hands down.
