If we're starting from scratch, your point might be valid. However in most real world situations, an upgrade is more of a realistic approach for most Custom builders.

  • I agree with mrwashur1991, every one know that Mac's are more expensive than PC's, but you get what you pay for. I've got a g5 powermac which is pretty old (2007) But i am pretty certain that my G5 is still as quick as any current day PC !!!!!!!!!

  • @wavetech100

That's just ignorant. This is a processor comparison goo gl / i6KZ3 You'd need at least a 2.6 PowerPC chip to be as fast as a Core2.

  • ok first an Imac is an all in one and it comes with a monitor in it as well as upgradable ram and hard drives, therefore your argument is completely invalid

  • @TheAppleXbox: Did you watch the video I'm responding too? No, no you didn't. Dumb.

  • Except;

Used macs, even 4+ years old, still maintain a significant proportion of their original value, and are easy to sell. So, you really only pay the difference to "upgrade". A 4 year old PC is virtually a doorstop (almost worthless) so you pay full pop for new.

A friend just sold his (nearly 5yr old) core duo iMac for over $500 (on ebay.) He bought a 27" iMac off apple.com's "deals" section for $1280, so his net cost was $780. You couldn't even buy a 2560X1440 IPS Monitor for $780.

  • @FocketOp:

"Dude its just a fact, even if u get all the software off, your comp will just slow down over time, its impossible to deny that..."

I can deny that, because it just isn't true.

  • @jamesham12345 i don't understand something here. i've ran windows 7 on some old machines that done surprisingly well. celeron d single cores, pentium ms, pentium 4s and pentium ds (they still needed the memory, 1gb+). the celerons and pent ms could have been better to but they worked fine. it seems when a new o/s comes out people want a new machine to but pcs in general do not need a constant upgrade to run the latest o/s. i think pc's biggest problem is it's users in general lol.

  • good video...I own a iMac 2011....the good thing is the iMac resale value

  • Is this Mac Vs PC or Mac speakers vs Klipsch speakers?

  • haha! awesome video man.

  • @MaximusCerberus Simple fact is that the useable life of your average iMac for your average home user is far longer than for an average PC. Its not an issue that Macs are significantly better quality than a good OEM PC ( Macs do have limitations) it is fact that more consideration is made in the design and integration of the hardware and the software. That is what you are paying for. I also have a 10 year old 'Golf ball G4' iMac that runs Tiger perfectly which I still use. Says it all!

  • @MaximusCerberus Bit of a sweeping statement I think. You considered that people may also have more to do with their time than have to deal with problems an issues building PC's? You say nonsensical prices. I say good investment. My, iMac 6 years old, £1000 new, spent £100 ram upgrade and OS upgrade in 6 years. Software £0 (all included), anti virus £0, repairs £0 (none) Total cost £1100. £183 per year (still going strong) for a computer that has never let me down. Good value I say!

  • I agree and disagree with this vid to an extent. To someone who is not a mac user, the 'all in one' concept of an iMac may seem frustrating. The simple fact is that for most home users, Macs simply do not need to be upgraded as often to keep up with Apples changes in OS and other softwares (unlike most PC's using windows). By the time my mac is unable to handle upgrades, (it is already six years old and runs beautifully) it will most likely be ready for the trash by that time anyway!

  • Speakers DEFINITELY change with age.

  • @arthursucks Yes it is... As you put your hard drive, processor, or gpu under load it will get hot, and eventually burn out. As it does this it gets slower, hotter, and louder, because of the fan constantly running at 100%. You end up with a slow computer, that is very loud, and very hot. And also uses a lot of power to keep cool.

  • @wavetech100 It may be as quick when using the old OS, which that powerpc chipset limits you to... I have a gaming rig that I built myself. Cost me about $1500, the equivalent from a company like dell would have been about $6000. When I upgrade this machine, it will cost me about between $500 and $750. Much better than buying a new mac pro, which starts at what, $1500?
