2/3 InTouch with Homer Hickam
This interview took place in October of 2002.
A young man in a small West Virginia coal town dreams of building rockets to outer space as he witnesses Sputnik flying overhead. A perfect Hollywood opening scene, the story behind the hit film October Sky is all the more remarkable because it is drawn from the real life of former engineer Homer Hickam.
@NewKreature517 Red Helmet is another great book of his.

Was a great movie, great book. Inspired me to pursue a career in Aerospace Engineering.

Yeap, the movie inspired me to read the book. (This movie is one of my top 3 movies, and I haven't decided what the other two are yet.) So I read Rocket Boys and later on noticed that he had written a sequel, The Coalwood Way. I was ecstatic. Good thing it was around Christmas time. And then I was surprised another Christmas with Sky of Stone and We Are Not Afraid. I would probably like all his other books, but I'm not really into fiction. Maybe some day I'll change that about myself.
