first off, no real trekkie would develop for the military as a trekkie has much higher ethical standards than the idiots in uniform who rush to do what evil men tell them to.
second, they don't actually demonstrate any actual scanning of anything. it might be possible to get some decent information with a spectrum of microwaves but it would probably need a bigger antenna head and some serious engineering and even then it won't be neat dots on a small screen
