I think I'm right in saying that Johnny Darrell did the first cut on the song followed by Porter Wagoner's great version, thence on to Jerry Lee. Tom Jones may have had the worldwide hit, but he never wrote his name up on Tootsie's wall like another Welshman I know did!

My comment is realy personal,and you are right Tom Jones did it realy good and it is the version I heard it most and I think we all got our favorite singer on each song they sang.But the song is great nomatter if Marty,Tom,Porter or Hank Locking sang it

I am not from USA and i have not heard this guy for long..having said that i believe his version is the best..to me he has one of the best voice in country : My favorites are

: George Strait, Merle Haggard, Marty Robbins then comes he likes of Garth Brooks,Kenny,tim Mcgraw,Brad Paisley etc
