  • is the key supposed to be this high?!

  • hmmm...you know, I think it is the original key but I can't be too sure. I know it wasn't raised for me.

  • she drags the vocals a bit, and it sounds a bit mature at time, but all good =D

  • Thank you. Considering the repetitive nature of the song, I did take liberties with its structure. Right or wrong, I didn't feel that the strict phrasing strucure led to an acurate portrayal of the emotion needed to make this song effective for me and my character. It's a pretty song, but a beautiful monologue and that's is how my director and I chose to approach it. I felt (and still feel) that Hodel IS very mature at this point. I think you need to see that change in her to get her story.

  • by far best performance i have seen out of the others. The others are very cheesy american. still acted really well but i think she should be a little younger. im auditioning for this part in a few weeks.

    well done though

  • thank you. I was, in fact, too old for the role. I believe I was 29 at the time. All three of the eldest daughters were "too old" in this production.

How did your audition go? Did you get the part?

  • i feel like this is a bit over acted. the song is already moving and sad, the acting can be subtle and i feel like it is far more affective than pushing it this far. im not saying that the emotions are incorrect, they just seem a little over done. also this is a simple song, so many changes from the original take away the simple beauty of it. your voice is very good for musical theater but perhaps is better suited for a belting song

  • @lilaandmel Yes- this is the regular key. Everyone's voice sounds differently with different songs- In a way it sounds like its a different key, but its not- Just the tone of your voice. I love it :) I sing it this way as well- So i know how it is.

  • this is the original key; I just got through playing Hodel :-D Ms. Cook, your lower register reminds me a little bit of Susan Egan.

  • Beautiful emotion. Brought a tear to my eye.

  • So she might be a little two old for the part. Tell me Mary Martin wasn't to old to play Maria Von Trapp. That was scarey. This is a fine perfomance. I only wish her singing voice was a little more in line. There are plenty of parts out there that a perfect for you. Best of luck

  • Hodel's way too old. It ruins the song for me.
