  • nice post...i wonder who is playing that old rag piano..

  • @dbeater1 ...i'm not sure BUT seeing as this was recorded at the Sun studios i wouldn't be at all surprised if it's Jerry Lee Lewis, they tended to do that sort of helping each other out there....don't hold me to it tho, i could be wrong..!

  • @imanuglyfrog hi frog..you know i thought the same thing....but my wife says it's Earl Poole Ball , ( and you know she just has to be right) He was a member of the band at one time..ha ha but i still am not sure..whoever it is they do a fine job with John..wonderful old tune.

  • @dbeater1 well i put more faith in your wifes judgment than mine, and i don't even know her...lol

  • Sick ass Rola!

  • The pianist is the songs' composer...Charlie Rich. I verified it with the engineer of the recording, Jack Clement. His style is a bit more versatile than the aforementioned pianists (which are all great in their own right). Sam Phillips used to get so mad at Charlie for "playin' that jazz sh*t!" Charlie mentioned in an NPR interview that Sam gave him a stack of Jerry Lee Lewis records to listen and study and told him to "come back when you get that bad!"

  • @promagnum thanks..is he the same from jimmy wison and the jimmy cats...if so he also sang? either way he sure could rip it on the piano

  • @dbeater1 Jimmy Wilson.

  • @imanuglyfrog Earl Ball played with Cash in the 70s-90s. He wasn't around during this time. Jimmy Wilson recorded with Cash at Sun.
