Sea turtles in Crete are endangered. Tourists, with their beach chairs and parasols, block the animals' beach nesting places while the 24-hour light from the island's hotels and taverns lures freshly hatched turtles in the wrong direction on their way to the sea. The Greek wildlife protection organization ARCHELON and its young activists from across Europe are trying to save the animals from extinction. They protect the egg clutches and guide hatched turtles to the sea. They inform the tourists and try to engage hotel operators in discussion.
Archelon don't except money because the Greek government will try to mess around with Archelons work.
