Thara Petiya - Henry Caldera

Born on August 19, 1937, Henry Caldera mastered singing and music under the maestro Sunil Shantha who also hailed from his hometown, Seeduwa.

Caldera became totally blind at the age of 14. Entering Seeduwa Deaf and Blind school in early 1960s, he learnt brail and trained himself in vocational training. Having acquired the knowledge of music, he became a radio artiste in 1968 and released his first song Thara Petiya" a lullaby in 1972 and the song became an evergreen hit. Caldera who released his first disc with four songs in 1977 sang well over 100 songs. Most of his songs are based on true experiences.

Father of four children, he was diagnosed with a cancer in 2004, and passed away in 2007.

Hi Jude,

Nice to see the vinyl record let alone listening to the song. I had the original recorded off the radio but was so bad.

Thanks for sharing the picture with the song.

I felt so good when Caldera was given a house when in difficulty. Feel sorry for some artistes who have no proper place to live though so talented.

Dear Jude, This was the song that made Henry Caldera famous...I also have a couple of lovely duets Henry singing with a female singer with one about Siripada and will try to put it sometime...It was a recent rendition with new music. A couple of amazing songs...
