For decades, a secretive religious society has been operating out of Washington, D.C., providing support and shelter for the few members of Congress worthy enough to join. Ring of Fire first covered the story with author Jeff Sharlet several years ago, but only after the affairs of John Ensign and Mark Sanford did the organization gain national attention. Mike Papantonio talks about the group's powerful ties to politicians, and offers some additional insight into their workings.

  • Finished reading Jeff Sharlet's "C Street" a few weeks ago! "The Family" is the best of these 2 books in my view.

  • First, cults are much more prevalent in the state of Nevada where Ensign/Reid are from. Most true Christians consider Mormonism to be a cult, and Sen. Reid is a Mormon. Ensign does visit Christian churches, but no one knows which one he attends. I know because I have visited Ensign political events before and seen him speak at a church. The Family is probably not that cultic, but I am sort of curious if their values are what is represented by family values. Ensign is also a vetrinarian.

  • While most members are Republican, a significant number are Dems and a whole lot of others in positions of power have some form of association with this secretive group. For instance, while not a member, even Hillary Clinton is reported to have attended the Wednesday morning Senate Prayer Breakfast at the C Street Center. Their philosophical/religious underpinnings seem to be based on a perverted form of Christianity that worships power above all else. Search "The Family" on Wikipedia.

  • Skulls and bones is more dangerous than the family. The family seems to be mostly republican. Skulls and Bones is both democrats like Kerry and republicans like Bush.

  • I am currently reading the book and it is some really scary stuff

Perfect reason why there is supposed to be a separation between church and state

  • Dude, such a good video but one problem.

You blame the media outlets for not covering this story but this brilliant vid has just 155 views and 11 ratings.

Its only been one day but if this vid had been just about the sex scandals you can bet those numbers would be in their thousands.

  • If I become a US Senator, can I have freaky sex in exotic locales?
