For 48 breathless hours, artists are starving, live and in person.
10 artists live sleep and create in the gallery space, only consuming whatever food and drink they can gain from trading art for food.
The Starving Artist Art Market is interested in the persona of the starving artist as a type of character, stereotype, or curiosity to be on display as "other" in relation to the viewer. Individual artists are invited to either antagonize or embody the identity as a "starving artist" as they see fit.
As much as the artwork of the individual artists will be an aesthetic subject, I am interested in the relationship between artist and his artwork, viewer and artist, indifference and pity, when these relations are stressed by hunger and physical needs over the course of two days.
Location: 5th Parallel Art Gallery
Hey, thanks J! I really appreciate being able to include a variety of voices talking about my art, it just seems a bit more conversational.
I'll be adding video documentation from Danger! High Speed Train! pretty soon to this website, check back!
