In 1978 Exxon began work on one of the largest industrial projects of the 20th century in the Guajira Desert of northern Colombia. This undeveloped region juts into the Caribbean where many native people had perviously not seen whites until the arrival of Exxon engineers and film crew. Filmed on 16mm by Barry Braverman over the course of several years, this excerpt from the Exxon/Esso Colombiano film 'El Cerrejon' captures the unique partnership between the energy giant and the local nomadic community.
