This is a video where I compare a late-60s original white label 20" Paiste GIANT BEAT with a current 20" Paiste Giant Beat reissue..
There's a lot of talking in this video so if you want to go directly to the sonic comparison it starts just after the 13:00 mark.

  • Dude, I noticed that Silver/RED/Silver sparkle ludwig kit in the back. What year is that? I have the 1967 Ludwig Keystone Silver/BLUE/Silver sparkle kit 13"/16"/18"/24 bass drum.

  • @kengolfnut The 13" is a 1970.. Someone parted out a 13 and 16FT from a kit but I won only the 13. I put it with a 22 1967 silver sparkle, and a 16 1970 red sparkle FT..

Your kit sounds great-got any pics of it?

  • I know I'm getting off-topic a bit, they have a new line that resemble old alphas to me, it could be a reissue of the 802, they call it pst 8, do you have any info on those? O'm sure they will have more demos once NAMM is over. I'm truely excited for this year, a lot of great stuff coming out

  • @CaptainZombeh Yes it's the PST8 (thanks to Christian for telling me about them).

I think they fill the 802 'void' Paste feels exists ..Paiste seems to be getting around to using the tight lathing on more cymbal lines, instead of just on the GBs and the Reflector types offered in different lines over the years..I believe the PST8 have the big hammering from older lines (200 400 some Reflectors, some Sound Creations, etc..) and they are 'Reflector' type.

  • great bells on both of em . i wish i had a set of giant beats . for my ludwig kit. do they make swish knocker giant beats iam not a big china cymbal guy but i think it would be cool since they made such heavy rude chinas paistes

  • @angelacevedo2112 The GB line is currently just the 24, 18, 20 and 14 and 15 hats..They wanted to be loyal to the original offering, but I think now they can/should expand the line.

  • @sticksbangskins You can send me a suitcase of full of hundreds and a busload of 20 year old busty cheerleaders with oral fixations!! ,... Is that in bad taste?

Thanks for the nice words, I'm glad you enjoy the video. I'm trying to get more original GBs from my friend to use in the videos but I'm having trouble locating him.

  • If Paiste came out with 15" Sound Edge GB's I'd be all over that.

  • nothing beats "the shimmer" of Paistes! other cymbals shimmer too, but any paiste player knows what "THE shimmer" is.

  • Going off of the sound of the video, its clear that the originals have better wash, and the sustain has a more pleasant sound to it....like the hair cut, terry haha

  • Great vid! I could just see the dudes on Pawn Stars calling this guy in to appraise some Paiste's

  • @sticksbangskins Paiste will custom make a set of 13" hi-hats for you!
