Uê, ua hala ku`u hoa... IZ lives forever in our hearts!

A rare video of "Kaleohano" performed live by Israel "Bruddah IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole on May 15, 1996 during the Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards ceremony (also known as the Hawaii Music Awards) at the Sheraton Waikiki. Featuring an impromptu guest performance by his former bandmates, the Makaha Sons of Ni'ihue, led by his brother-in-law Louis "Moon" Kauakahi. This was their last such performance together before Bruddah IZ's untimely death on June 26, 1997. It is the only known live video recording of both together, broadcast by KHNL-TV / KFVE-TV, Honolulu. A bittersweet moment captured for eternity. Thanks to Bruddah IZ's longtime producer Jon de Mello, The Mountain Apple Company, Makaha Sons of Ni'ihue, Raycom Media and the Hawaii Music Awards. • I started crying when he started crying, and when the Makaha Sons came up on stage, and then at the end when Iz was crying when all were doing a group hug. Pretty sure this was their last time on stage together, after perfoming over 20 years as a group. Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau were 5, Moon, John and Jerome, and the two brothers Skippy and Israel. Skippy died like 12 years earlier, after this , Iz died, and now there are only the Makaha Sons. Thanks for posting this, never saw this one, Mahalo

  • @hankakah God goin do plenny good kine stuff fo him

  • I wonder how many of us cry when watching/listening to this particular video.. I always do. It was not needed to know IZ personally to know he was Pure Love, and he spread it to all around him. He must be watching us, still hoping that all who love Hawaii will show love to each other.
