Time lapse movie of stars in the night sky over the San Juan Mountains in Colorado

Night sky over the San Juan Mountains in Colorado. The building in the foreground is the Burn Hut and the trees are the Aspen trees that surround the hut. This was taken on a moon free night in April 2010.

The trails are actually aircraft going overhead. However, when I watched this back frame by frame you could see some meteor trails as well.

The video represents about two and a half hours of footage compressed into around 10 seconds.

This was taken on a Canon 5D Mark II

@danielcettour It was around 10-15 seconds per exposure. The total running time was several hours. Glad you liked it.

looks awesome!! what lens were you using?

@phizer Lens is Canon 24-105 L f4.0 which is nice and sharp. But the key thing was the Canon 5D II - I needed a pretty sensitive camera to pick up the stars. I was pleased with the result though. Glad you liked it.

@phizer No, this was done with timed photos and then stiched into a movie. My main conern was keeping the camera warm enough to keep taking the photos. It was about -15 celsius out there!
