@oshawaxpress The guy died because he's an alcoholic. Some doctor, philosopher and humanitarian. You see a hero, I see a soccer hero fallen from grace.

@ml2001 I feel sorry for everyone who confuses soccer with religion and soccer superstars with jesus.

You have no talent, you don't know anything about soccer, you have no idea who Socrates was. Don't quit your day job, you sorrily wasting your time.

@oshawaxpress Why bother answering people who play football with their hands?

"He made his presence felt in the 1986 World Cup. But another one, perhaps more rewarding — serving the poor as a doctor and becoming a sagacious commentator on television — began. “Life is not about quantity. It is about quality,” Socrates said over 30 years ago. By modern standards, he died young. He drank his way to his grave, like so many other sportspersons. But the difference is, he was a wise man who did know exactly what he was doing. It was his hemlock." Tribute to Socrates.
@MrOboema - He didn't 'end up in the gutter'. He was a doctor of medicine and philosophy and a vigorous activist for democracy in Brasil who also chose to drink and smoke throughout his life. He did not end up as a lonely and destitute beggar on the streets of Rio. He was a truly great footballer and a man with well-developed humanitarian and intellectual qualities. I'm sure you could find many North Americans who have ended up 'in the gutter' who had none of Socrates abilities.
