Video: FFVII, Advent Children
Audio: "Goodbye" by SR-71

I've been diddlying with this video for a few years now, going back and forth working on it until it's completion for Kumoricon 2008, where it won Best Action. Later, it won Judge's Pick at SakuraCon 2009.

I originally set out to make a simple action video that over time become a monstrosity of ADD-inducing sublime and chaos. Enjoy. :o

  • Hey, quite an amv. :} Gratz for the first place in the action category!

  • Hey thanks. :) To be perfectly honest, I thought yours was going to win, heh. I still think it should've. :P

  • O_O You're putting this one up at Kumoricon?

  • Yup. In the Action category, respectively ;P

  • I voted for this at Sakura-con on Saturday. Surprisingly it was also the first time I've heard this song. Thanks for making it =)

  • The Digimon one is far better edited than this one. It's very sad though that most people vote for an AMV because of the Anime and not the actual editing, mood and if it makes sense or not, which is what amvs are all about. =/

  • @ArashiAMV Not really, and editor judges and appointed judges aren't the ones who pick the "best one", it's always the audience. And the audience is always going to vote for the source they like, which is the most popular, no matter how it's edited, unless the editing is all eyecandy FX editing. Anyway, just leave it at that and let's stop spamming the video comments.

  • @Kazemon15KHR I say that it happens a lot, especially when there are appointed judges and editor judges.

  • @ArashiAMV That may be true, but you can't deny that source choice is one of the reasons why the general audience, who has no editing experience, chose some of the vids they do. I have seen plenty of cons where because of a song/anime choice won solely based on the song/anime combo other than the editing. Anime expo's Death Note drama vid last year comes to mind. Tell me when an underdog anime AMV EVER won at a con against an overused source? Food for thought for you. =/ Just asking.

  • @Kazemon15KHR Isn't basing your decision on the source used being more obscure or longer just as bad as basing your opinion on which source you like more or which source is more popular? Food for thought.

  • @ArashiAMV And also, it's true, my opinion is biased. I am a fan of the underdog series. If this person did not use an overused source and still won based on their editing, then I would cheer them all the way.

  • @ArashiAMV Everyone has their own opinion about how things should be edited. To me, this video looked like it was just spliced together. Sure, it could have taken alot of time, depending on the editor, but I have a pet peeve of something only using one movie vs. 54 episodes of scene searching. And that's how I judge. If this person used something other than just one movie then it wouldn't be so bad. And I posted the comment a year ago, stating my own opinion. I could care less about it now.

  • @Kazemon15KHR It's quite obvious your opinion is biased and you're bitter because your friend's video did not win this contest, so you stoop as low as to insult this videos merits. I for one find that to be quite catty and low.

  • @Kazemon15KHR Well there you go talking shit again. How do you know that this video only won because of the source used? Perhaps others, like myself, felt like this video had better editing from a technical standpoint, as well as more original editing? As for some of the videos I've seen not being as good, sure, but I can name multiple videos using the same sources that edited differently, and were fantastic.

  • @ArashiAMV Sure, there may be different edited vids, but you can also conclude that some of those different edited vids did not fit well as the others, right? There will always be those who match better than the song than others. That's the concept of a contest. This video used an overused source with an overused song and won based solely on that, when it should be the skills, no matter how it look like it copied. Taking Chii's Otaku and Koop's Skittles. Same concept, but still good in own way.

  • @Kazemon15KHR I don't denounce that it took skill to edit, however, I will call bullshit on your "There's only so many ways to edit to a song to make it work" theory. There are many different ways to tackle a song, I've been editing for 8 years myself and have seen many different videos to the same songs that tells me this.
