  • I'm fade up with the gnome vs kde war and the shitty comments...

Stop make critizm between the two project, choose you desktop environment and do not say fuck kde or fuck gnome...

The free choice is the open source force...

  • It's dumb to try and do a screencast demo with a high resolution. If he did it at 1280x1024, everything would be so small it would be unreadable. I've done a bunch of inkscape screencasts and we limit them to 800x600 just for this reason. Youtube's encoding quality just sucks too btw.

  • Oh it is like pause in a video game instead of a traditional desktop. Cool

  • KDE does it better, for free.

I usually use GNOME because I hate Qt, but... KDE 4 is almost worth the knowledge that I'm using software written with it.

  • We need A.I.'s like Cortana (Halo) in our computers, then we'll be getting somewhere!

  • All desktops borrow from each other! If one gets a cool new feature why can't the other desktops adopt it as well. So ripping off is not the problem, doing it badly and not adding anything original is. KDE 4 borrows very well and adds tonnes of cool new features.

  • well even when they first came out, the back-ground windows lost the buttons on the menu-bar until they came into the foreground again

  • I use Vista regularly at work (unfortunately), a Vista rip-off KDE 4.0 is not. It is superior in every way. As far as OS X goes, the arguments over who innovated what first will go on for years. But the similarities are shallow ones. KDE 4.0 is a different beast from the Mac desktop and overall, better IMHO. And it is worth pointing out how much open source software Apple have used to make OS X and Safari possible in the first place.

  • I'd dispute the "always have" part, but how is this a usability issue ?

  • I installed on the day of the 4.0 release and yes, as we were warned, this was the 'will eat your children' release. But every week since release I see new improvements. Its getting better every week. And this is great to witness. I'm using Kubuntu 7.10 and though there are glitches and things it has become my default desktop. Incidentally I was playing with a new mac the other day and I was actually disappointed by it and was happy to get back to my 'better every week' KDE 4.0 desktop.

  • macs fade out inactive windows, they always have.
