A video from today's training session with Inja the Staffie and Fendi the Aussie. Mostly disc dogging, but also some freestyle and a bit of obedience (heeling)

  • Love this. thx 4 the vid.

  • @finnbjerke Thank you :)

  • love the scoot with Inja. She would look even cooler if you were lower I think. You look 5ft11 next to Inja ;) Also good height on the flip throws to Inja. Fendi looks great. I bet a little push back and jam would get Fendi fired up a bit. You have a lot of great stuff. May I ask where you are located? Have you had other disc dogs, you seem pretty experienced.

  • @DiscDogBlog I live in Gothenburg, Sweden. The sport is not so big yet, I'm trying to promote it and learn as much as I can to teach others. I bought my first dog frisbees in 2008 and have been training on and off since then. Inja is my first disc dog and besides Fendi I've tried some basic stuff with other dogs. Thanks again for your post :)

  • great..

  • That's awesome, Lovisa! Good stuff! Inja is awesome and Fendi will jam for you as well.

    Peace~

  • @4fota We love to cross train our dogs in agility, it benefits our disc dogging which is our main focus. If I could do another dog sport it would be herding. I respect the connection and chemistry of working with the dog to herd large animals. Are you on facebook? facebook / jason.rigler I'm glad you posted the video, it's been great meeting you. I look forward to seeing more of your disc dog fun ;)

  • @DiscDogBlog I'm gonna commit myself to disc doggin now, during the years it's been on and off, mostly training jin the summertime (not so long here in Sweden) and the rest of the year has been focused on obedience, freestyle and other sports. But to get better I have to go for it and put time into it :)

  • @DiscDogBlog Ahaa! Thanks a lot for the clarification! I use similar methods when training canine freestyle to "get her going", she's a little softie who mostly prefers to cuddle, wouldn't grab a thing as a pup but now she can engage in a good tug - not as committed as the staffie though ;) Awesome to have professionals help you in the training ! I've mostly picked stuff up from youtube (Ron Watson and Mark Muir are two fav's,)but I have enrolled at pvybes distance learning class - exciting.

  • @4fota

push back and jam I actually got from an agility trainer, Susan Garrett. It is literally a playful "pushing" of the dog, and running away. Reward with the disc when they catch you. More energy for sure, Susan calls it " loud and fun". We started about the same time as you. We are in Florida. We got great set up training and tug/drive training from Ron Watson of pvybe.com. He has great stuff all over the web. 2 critical elements for drive are reducing self reinforcement and diet.

  • @DiscDogBlog Thank you for our kind words and for taking an interest in our training :)

I'm almost 5ft10, so no wonder you think that I look big in comparison with Inja ;) I'm trying to get a hang of all the terminology, what do you mean with push back and jam? For me to be more active perhaps? ;) I think that would help ^^ Also, I tried to give her some treats but that's a no go for now, she slows down as soon as she's fed - for her training I'll focus on building drive and some insanity :P
