@moonunitenar umm yea i raise horses and yes they do get scaird of their reflection at night in glass so figure out the facts b4 u speak up... and i would have done the same thing... when horses get scaird its not a good thing bcuz they pretty much black out and run like hell 2 get away from what frightened them and when a horse is scaird i is really dangerous...

He broke a pane of glass so he could turn on a light so the horses wouldn't get scared? OK, I don't think he robbed anything, but the part about the window doesn't add up, lol :P

Just a guess. He got really, really, really high thought the guess house was the actual house, key wouldn't fit so he broke the window and then either the groundskeeper confronted him or he sobered up quick and realized he fucked up. Probably still really high tried to explain to the man the mix up or just went straight to the front house. Groundskeeper either pissed off about window or looking to make a buck makes up the story about stolen jewelry. Maybe because he saw Kat's jewelry earlier.
