Josef Marais sings South African traditional folk ballads and original songs. This is one of fifteen tunes from an early album set of 78 rpm records on the DECCA label, released in 1946. This is his third album, but his first teamed with Miranda. She sings in only three of the fifteen tunes presented in this album. Wasn't long before they married and went on to perform before sold out audiences for the next 30 years.

These are pretty much the original cuts of these songs, though many were re-recorded in the 1950s and 1960s with large orchestras. These earlier recordings are hard to find and have the charm these songs are suppose to have, in my humble opinion.

  • I used to sing this song in Montessori school, and years later, my Dad taught me the song parody which became the UNC fight song, which was later banned because it's not PC. But here's the original for those that hadn't heard it.
