This is another of the "short madison" sets from the MPC era of Lionel that I collected when I got back into the hobby. This was one of the separate sale sets, where you bought the cars and the locomotive separately. Coming out in 1978, the locomotive has the "Mighty Sound of Steam" which you can hear in this True HD 1080p video, but no whistle. It's a Hudson (4-6-4) whereas the real Blue Comet was pulled by a Pacific (4-6-2), but as a model from 32 years ago, we won't quibble. :-) It also has the wispy smoke characteristic of the era. For the time, it was a good looking, good running model train. Other than the steam sound, it's a purely conventional locomotive as you can tell from the E-unit lever sticking up out of the boiler. Please visit my web site -- http://www.toytrains1.com -- for lots more videos and photos of both real and model trains.

  • i this every lionel is a collectable at book value low and high it is realy not an ez set to find iv seen some of the passenger cars go for ave prices but that engine and tender holds it value at a good price i would like to have this set even though im not a great fan of the first gen steam sounds setup but thats what that had back then and i respect that

  • That is not a train, that is a collectible! Great video!

  • I love the Lionel Blue Comet set!! :-) The Halley combo car was the first train car I ever recevied. When I was going through college in the early to mid 90's I hunted down the other cars. I'm a member of a local train club and we will be running conventional models this weekend and this is what I am planning on bringing!! :-)

  • OMG how much trains do you HAVE!?!? Endless videos... About one everyday :O
