This is my ode to a guilty pleasure that I haven't been able to kick.
There is now a Broadway musical based on Xanadu!
This video started out as an entry to a contest their website had in which you were to show how "you Xanadu."
I think I missed the deadline, but here it is finished for all of you to enjoy.
HO!!!
-my other videos are under my other account at illusionation8.

Thanks again to everyone for all the great feedback!
I'm really happy other people are liking this!
Saw the stage show here in Cleveland and it was great!
I got chills during some of the great moments it re-created lovingly, but also liked how they restructured it for the stage - having Danny as the guy who owns the Xanadu building made sense. And making Sonny a himbo was a great idea...more Venice-like for sure!
I had to watch the original again just to re-live it in comparison!
Strange how a lot of the story is parallel to my own life.
I was a struggling artist in a corporate job, hating it and his uncreative asshole boss. meets an older gentleman Donald King who happened to start "The Outsiders" in Cleveland during the 1960's garage band boom and we are on our way to making a documentary on the history of Cleveland rock and roll!
His late wife is a link between us, as well, because I met her in the last year of her life while battling cancer. She had left him in the past during troubled times, but he later came to her aid in the last two years.
In the time that I knew her, she was an inspiration to me - teaching me to get past my own creative blocks and open my channels to allow all creative thought to flow freely. She was my muse...and I miss her dearly.
We love you, Rosie.

  • I want to know who did the mix during the opening of the Xanadu club. Anyone???

  • @Djlavagirl The song is called "Drum Dreams" by ELO. I just cut some of the redundant sections of the track and rearranged a few parts to create what you heard.

  • Magnificent! You've produced the ultimate enchantment time capsule from the 80s.

  • Those were fun times. The not so great movie was a real romp and i enjoyed it... back then.

The album was awesome too, specifically anything ELO worked on, plus Olivia's voice.

    Thx for the vid.

  • I'm glad you liked it!

You absolutely have my permission to link it to your blog.

I love how this has struck a chord with so many fans of the film and the way I see it, the more the merrier.

I checked out your blog and will have to give it my full attention when I get a chance.

It looks to be extremely informative!

  • SinDrome 6! What an amazing eye and ear you have! This film means more ot me than just a campy musical from my early youth. You captured the "Magic" of the film as I always viewed it! So much so, with your permission, that I included your clip in my weekly film blog CINEMA: COUNTERPOINT in wich I discuss dancing in musicals! I had to include XANADU and couldn't have found a more perfect tribute to my thoughts and feelings about this film! Thank you so very much! - Jer :)

  • Actually,Tom King is credited as the one who started the group,spun-off from his previous band Tom King and Starfires, but it is his younger brother Don(who I have known for the better part of a decade)that had a large hand in getting Tom started in the music business and helped his younger brother to create the band that would be known as "The Outsiders".Unfortunately, history hasn't given Don his due, which Tom King confirmed for me while I visited him at a hospice where he recently passed on

  • Just FYI, TOM King started the Outsiders, not DON King.

  • Excellent!! The underrated best musical from the 80's!!
