When you work with Media Composer, youll find that creating, opening, and working with projects presents you with more choices than in your Avid Xpress Pro projects.
Your projects can include a wider range of resolutions, and you have more options for input and output of your media.
And unlike Avid Xpress Pro, Media Composer can be used as a workgroup-based editing system, which means that users in your group can access projects and media within a shared storage environment managed by either Avid MediaManager or the Avid Interplay engine.
When you start a new project, Media Composer presents you with a couple of new choices. For example, you can select a raster type, making your high-definition workflow more efficient by letting you view and edit your media in its native raster size.
And once you open your project, you have access to a wider variety of formats, including some new HD resolutions such as DNxHD 36 and 1:1 uncompressed HD. Standard definition projects offer additional formats (10:1, 4:1, and so on), MPEG compressions (MPEG 30, MPEG 40, and MPEG 50), and multi-camera resolutions.
These options also appear in the Capture tool, so you can use them for input when you capture your media.
You can mix the resolutions in your sequence as you edit. And you can use them when you output your sequence in any one of the supported formats.
In addition to the new formats, Media Composer gives you more control over your clips and sequences through the Video Input and Output tools.
In the Video Output tool you can set a number of options for your video:
• You can set the Hue, Saturation, Phase, Brightness, and Contrast of your output.
• For finer adjustments, you can use a number of Gain sliders.
• You can save your custom settings by using the Settings menu.
• You can downconvert your HD projects to standard definition, or crossconvert your projects to another compatible resolution.
• And the HD tab gives you much the same control over HD output.
