  • you're right from all I hear and I stink at racking so far ...just love it though - it's awesome and ...just love it.... so I'm all over the place still with the throws and smooth racing b-line's etc. I'll try again when time permits - great hobby!

  • @jasonpsage well, in pylon racing, you don't use a rudder. it almost never comes into play because you spend almost no time moving on the ground, they get off the ground in about 10-20 feet. if you need lots of rudder for that short of trip, there must be something wrong with the plane :D. i use both tails, and they work about the same, i almost never keep the throttle between "off" and "go".

  • (see comment below this and read first)

...but I could see a vtail being used just as elevator and probably being fine for a race. I don't imagine - though I could be wrong, that pilots don't usually fuss with rudder in races... it LOOKS like all 90 bank and pulling up to make turns.

  • v Tails have less drag and therefore go faster - whether it's an option or not I don't know - but I've heard of people making their own "modifications". Regulations for your racing "sponsor" (AMA I think usually - dunno ...new to this stuff) will dictate what's allowed or not. vTail's I heard weren't allowed in AMA - or didn't used to be or something - don't remember - but they do (usually) require fancy digital radio "mixing" to make the vtail act as both rudder and elevator.

  • how come one has a V tail and the other normal? is there an option? and where do u get one of those?
