1996 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with home brew hydrogen on deman system. Fuel mileage went from 11 mpg up to 17.7 mpg. Also the pinging you get going up hill while using cheap gas has been eliminated as well as more power pulling those hills.

I do have a small correction to the video. I show you that I have over 500 miles on that tank where I only have 169 miles on that tank, but the intent was to show that I had not driven a very short distance down hill to achieve 17.7 mpg. I wasn't trying to mislead anyone.

A week after making this video I am now up to 19.2 mpg and climbing. I've still not built and installed the EFIE, don't know if I need one. When I level off on the mpg I'll make another video.

  • Why would you do this, and find out it doesn't work, when you could just do a Cummins 4BT swap and get 28-30 mpg?

  • @av8orf15 It did work, went from 13 MPG to 19.5 city. Too much trouble to keep it going though so I no longer use it. Also there is a danger in working with H2. The truck is so old that I would like to just sell it now and buy a newer model. Preferably a Ford as there is no local Dodge deal near me anymore. Well there is but I'd rather not do business with him.

  • When I first bought my truck it got much better mileage than it did before I hooked this up. I think a lot of the improvement may be that when H2 burns it creates super heated steam. I have seen other videos that show how clean engines, small generator engines, are after running H2. I have no way to prove this but it is my guess that the steam cleaning of the engine has a lot to do with the mileage improvement of a 13 year old engine.

  • just the scan guage, impossible to check the old fashion way as the flap on the fill spout won't allow you to see how far the fuel level comes up in the neck. Every pump will fill differently and I suspect the same pump would have a great deal of variation. I figure the gauge is close enough if I check with and without the hydro working.

  • Is this the 5.2L or the 5.9L? I've got the 5.9L same year and make, wondering if I can do this to my truck.

  • @joudheus

it's the 318. If you do it be very careful. Hydrogen is highly volitile and any spark can be an explosion.

  • I have exact same truck as you with the 318 and i have 265k and all i did was change original tires to 2004 dodge rims and tires and get 16.5 mpg.

  • Totally cool...

  • @STORMCAT06 Oil companies have a huge grip on car makers. On top of that, Hydrogen burns a lot hotter and stronger, meaning you'd get higher engine temps (can anyone help expand on that?) and I heard of one guy who blew a piston. The idea that it takes more amps from the alternator, which takes more mechanical energy, is not true. The alternator is always running and always creating resistance to the engine, but when the power is not needed, the engery is lost in heat.

  • Thats pretty cool 17mpg on that kind of truck I would do that to my ram

  • HE SAID NIPPLES ON

  • like to give the HHO system a try, I know the risks of explosion (which it is hydrogen). But my fuel economy is 8-12 miles per gallon with 83 oct. with 10% ethanol and 10-15 with 83 oct. pure. I am also sitting at 228k miles. The only mod i have done at all is a MSD ignition with 8mm MSD wires, and distributor. any suggestions

  • ive got the same make and model, just with the 5.9L 360 magnum and would like to give the HHO system a try, I know the risks of explosion (which it is hydrogen).
